Dialogue

These examples are from the Embershard alpha. When a new match starts a random conversation between characters present in the players team might play. Since the game is a fast-paced mobile MOBA-esque, this dialogue needs to be brief to not get in the way of gameplay. It fills the gap while players are getting ready, and those new to the map orient themselves, while also trying to convey as much as possible about the characters. The clip can’t be more than 8 seconds long but should make players curious and invested.

Ability Description

These are abilities written for the RPG In Nomine Symphonica. Like all ability descriptions, they need to be phrased very clearly and concisely, while still conveying excitement enough for the player want it.

Spider's Nest

Arachne spreads webbing in a large area around her that fades after several seconds. While in her nest, she gains 20% increased speed and can climb over low obstacles.

Medium

An angel with this Melody is able to see and hear ghosts and spirits even when they aren't manifest. However, it doesn't automatically those entities friendly.

Clear Weather Amulet

While worn, this amulet creates an invisible barrier around the wearer, preventing rain and snow from reaching them. It isn't strong enough to prevent damage or conditions.

Character Description

Athena

A fighter from an ancient civilization and a master of her glaive, Athena defends the ruins of Lemuria. She relies on her strength and tactics to always stay one step ahead of intruders. Fighting enemies with guns isn't too different to her from fighting magic users.

Athena has always been athletic, and choosing a career in the imperial army was a very natural choice for her. She showed great talent with polearms and was quick enough to dodge magical attacks. Her skill and staunch loyalty and led to her position in Nossis.

The Empire abandoned most outposts after the War of the Elements, but left many valuable assets behind. They needed a trusted soldier to bring them back, and Athena fit that description perfectly. She wasn't happy to be stationed far away from glory, but would never fail in her dedication as a soldier.

When the quake of magical energy ripped the island to Earth, Athena faced a profound existential crisis. Her whole life has been about the glory of a nation now taken from her. She didn't know what to do with herself until she found some looters from this new world trying to steal ancient artifacts.

Appearance

Age: 34; Height: 185cm; Skin: Tan; Eyes: Brown; Hair: Black, sheered sides, the rest in a short tail.

Athena is muscular but agile. Her body carries the marks of a life of combat. Her face is always stoic, which, together with some sharp features, makes her seem ready for battle at any time. This is enhanced by how she doesn't take off her armor or leave her weapons unless needed.

She wears an Anatim Empire legionary uniform that she has kept as intact and as polished as possible. It is composed of a leather shirt reinforced with steel and has a decorative pauldron. It includes metal gauntlets to protect her hands while allowing great freedom. Leg armor includes pteruges that form a skirt, reinforced with metal plates. Metal shin guards protect her lower legs.

Her main weapon is a glaive. It is aerodynamic enough to facilitate her heavy swings while maintaining enough heft to bring serious destruction. The weapon allows her to keep enemies at enough distance to retain her maneuverability.

This is part of a character description for Embershard that was used internally as the foundation for art, animation, gameplay. and more. Of course, game requirements come first and the narrative was altered at several points to reflect what she needed to be in the game.
